I agree that an extension of leave would be necessary

inconvenient.

But comparing this calculation of pension with yours

21119 leads to the Interesting result that they have

deducted the whole of his half pay leave from his pen-

sionable service !!

I make it that he is entitled to 27/60ths of his

salary, and the question of an addition to complete

a further year cannot arise.

of your Despatch No. 224 of 15th. July, informing me of the retire- -ment on the ground of ill-health of Ir. A. . Erewin, Registrar-

-General.

I have learned with much regret the reasons which have necessitated Mr. Browin's retirement and I desire to

place on record the esteem in which he was held both by the Govern- -ment and by the community of Hongkong during a period of service extending over twenty-four years.

I agree with you in thinking that air. Brewin should be allowed to take the remainder of his leave on nalf-pay

and to retire with effect from 19tu. November and I have caused

the accompanying paper of particulars of pension to be prepared on that basis.

I have also allowed an addition of 25 days to his pensionable service to cring it up to 26 years and subject to your approval of such addition I should be glad if you would for- -yard the paper of particulars to the Crown Agents as authority for

payment of the pension.
